Its odd This is one of the most difficult to read books, as well as being absolutely unputdownable one. Both Pratham Pratishruti and Subarnalata portrays stories of undefeatable feminists, people who just cannot go through life shrugging and saying what can we do, that s life, that s society But where Satyabati s story have somewhat hopeful tone, Subarnalatas struggle starts from her marriage as a child, and never ends Interestingly enough, I think the difference of these two protagonists lives are due to the men in their life I am saying interesting, because, in most of Ashapoorna Devis novels, seldom have strong heroic male characters There is usually one male side character, but has strong persona namely Satyabatis father in Pratishruti But rest are weak willed people with not much moral sense or strength of character.Subarnalatas story was not much different, her father, husband, even sons are weak people But the difference between Subarnalata and Satyabati is that the power equation never EVER goes to a strong person, who can somewhat help, support or nurture Subarnalata She always fights alone, and is beaten alone Even the weak male characters in Satyabatis life are big hearted enough t...

It is not a story of a woman who wanted to do something with her life, it is not a story of a woman who was trapped in a society of false ego, It is a story of those millions who are stuggling to get freedom even though as a nation we are independent I was surprised to ...
